According to a Commercial Alteration Permit filed on the city’s website, Murphy’s is set to undergo renovations, expanding into the adjacent 1,800-square-foot vacant space. Situated at 1589 Madison Ave , the Irish pub-style dive bar has been a Midtown staple for over twenty years. Owner Benny Carter has not yet responded to What Now Memphis ’ inquiry, leaving uncertainty about whether Murphy’s will remain operational during the renovations.

The estimated $172,000 expansion project will encompass a range of improvements, including a new roof, doors, and windows, alongside updates to mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems. Additionally, the vacant space will be partially daylit to facilitate outdoor dining contiguous to Murphy’s, with partial covering and conditioning.

Murphy’s is renowned for its Irish flair and not-so-Irish fare featuring favorites like the Murphy’s Burger and Basket O’ Rings. The pub also boasts a diverse selection of beverages, including wine, cocktails, and its signature Murphy’s Irish Stout, available on tap.

As this expansion unfolds, patrons can anticipate an enhanced experience that seamlessly blends tradition with modernity, solidifying Murphy’s position as a cherished destination in Midtown.
