Heat Advisory continues for the Mid-South
2 days ago
Another day, another Heat Warning...
This Sunday AM it feels absolutely tropical when you step outside. Air you can wear is an understatement with dewpoints in the upper 70s and 80s. As a result, most of the Mid-South is under a Heat Advisory (expected to feel like 105-109°) and an Excessive Heat Warning (expected to feel like 110°+).
There is a cold front moving closer and it will bring a chance for rain and storms later today mostly along and south of i40 this afternoon/early evening but more importantly, it brings a cool down... No matter how brief...we will take it.
Unfortunately, that really nice weather only lasts a day, Tuesday is livable but by Wednesday/Thursday(4 th of July) expect Heat Warnings to be back. Instability is back with the heat and humidity as well which brings with it rain and storm chances during the holiday as well. Don't expect a wash out but, you definitely will have to be diligent with thunder and lightening when in or on the water and outside.
We also have our first Atlantic Hurricane of the year; Beryl is now a Cat 2 and is expected to become a Cat 4 before weakening again prior to landfall...this is unusual to be happening this early in the season and spells out what could be a wild year in the tropics ahead of us.
It continues to be hot across the board. This comes after a high of 94 degrees in Memphis with a heat index that hit 111 degrees.
The heat and humidity will give way to a few showers and storms during the afternoon and early evening. Sunshine returns with much lower humidity on Monday. Likely the best day of the next 7 days. After that the heat and humidity come back with a vengeance as we head towards the 4 th of July.
SUNDAY: Hot and humid to start the day. Highs in the lower 90s with a heat index above 100 degrees for the second day in a row. Scattered showers and a couple of thunderstorms develop after lunch and through the evening along and south of I-40. No severe weather is expected. High of 91 degrees. Winds NE 0-5mph. MONDAY: Sunny and hot. Lower humidity. Highs in the upper 80s feeling like the lower 90s. High of 89 degrees. Winds NE 5-10mph. TUESDAY: Mostly sunny and hot. Humidity is back up. Highs in the middle 90s with a heat index between 100-110 degrees. High of 96 degrees. Winds S 0-5mph. WEDNESDAY: Hot and humid. Dangerous heat returns. A few isolated showers or storms in the afternoon. Temperatures top out in the upper 90s with a heat index nearing 110 degrees. High of 97 degrees. Winds SW 5-10mph.
