NASHVILLE — The application period for the 2024 Wildlife Management Area (WMA) Big Game quota hunts and the Cherokee party hunts for bears continues through July 24. Mailed applications will not be accepted. Entries must be submitted before midnight (CDT) July 24.
Hunt locations, dates, rules, and additional information can be found on the quota hunt instruction sheets available online at Quota Hunts (tn.gov). Quota hunt applications can be made online at www.quotahunt.gooutdoorstennessee.com or in person at any TWRA license agent or TWRA regional office.
Big Game WMA Hunts
An applicant may apply for 15 hunt choices out of 60 total hunt options for the Big Game WMA quota hunts. Youth can make seven choices. Applicants can apply individually or as a party of up to 15 people maximum.
After all the drawings are conducted, any leftover permits for the Big Game quota hunts will be sold on a first-come, first-serve basis beginning Aug. 21 at 8 a.m. (CDT). Leftover permits will be available for purchase online, via the TWRA mobile app, at any license agent, or any TWRA regional office.
Cherokee Bear Party Hunts
There are 16 hunt choices for the Cherokee bear party hunts. Bear parties must have 50-75 members and there are no priority points for these hunts. Dogs are allowed on bear hunts.
Customers can visit www.quotahunt.gooutdoorstennessee.com, or apply via the TWRA mobile app, at one of the TWRA regional offices, or at any TWRA license agent. There is no application fee for current Annual Sportsman License holders, Lifetime Sportsman License holders, or seniors possessing an Annual Senior Citizen Sportsman License.
For all other applicants, there is a non-refundable $12 application handling fee, and a vendor fee is assessed for each drawing entered. When applying at a license agent, hunters must remain at the location while the application is processed to verify the information is correct on the receipt.
Local salon raising funds for Cherokee anglers
ROGERSVILLE — Cherokee High School’s Jacob Berryhill and Isaac Chandler landed a spot in the 2024 Strike King Bassmaster High School National Championships — and a local salon wants to do its part to help them cover the expenses for the trip.
Berryhill and Chandler will compete with other high school anglers from across the country on Aug. 1-3 at Chickamauga Lake in Dayton, Tennessee. It’s the second year in a row that the Cherokee team has qualified for the national championship. Their boat captain is Randy Berryhill.
Hundreds of the top young anglers from across the country will descend on Chickamauga Lake for the Bassmaster Junior National Championship (July 26-27) and Strike King Bassmaster High School National Championship (Aug. 1-3).
Dayton will host both events, with daily takeoffs and weigh-ins held at Dayton Boat Dock. The Junior Series event features anglers from grades 2-8, while the High School Series field is comprised of those in grades 8-12.
Onyx Salon & Barber Co. is holding a raffle to raise money to help cover travel expenses and equipment. The winner, drawn on July 23, will receive gift certificates and product goodies. The gift basket includes haircut and beard-shaping with Bronson; shampoo, cut and style with Christin; structured mani with Chloe; and a K18 gift set. All proceeds go directly to the Cherokee fishing team.

Applications due July 17 for duck blind drawing
NASHVILLE — The application period for the 2024-25 seasonlong Waterfowl WMA hunts is open through July 17. The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency will not be holding in-person announcements of draw results this year. Instead, successful applicants will be notified by email when the drawing is finalized on Aug. 3.
The online application is available at the Go Outdoors Tennessee website (quotahunt.gooutdoorstennessee.com). Hunters should verify their email contact information is correct at the time of application to ensure they receive draw results.
Only current Tennessee residents, native Tennesseans who have an approved application for the Native Tennessean license, and Lifetime Sportsman License holders are eligible for the seasonlong blinds.
There is no application fee, but applicants must have a valid license to hunt waterfowl to apply.
Hunters can select up to 48 hunt choices. No person may apply more than once. Only parties of four to eight members may apply for the drawing.
All hunters who are successfully chosen for a blind must claim their permit by Aug. 7. If there are any leftover permits by the application deadline, there will be a leftover drawing on Aug. 22.
The next available application period will be Sept. 25-Oct. 15 for early segment duck quota hunts. The mid-application dates are Oct. 23-Nov. 12, and the late application dates are Nov. 13-Dec. 3.
Tennessee Waterfowl Field Day is Aug. 3
NASHVILLE — Waterfowl hunters and Tennesseans of all ages are invited to attend the 2024 Tennessee Waterfowl Field Day on Aug. 3 from 8 a.m. to noon at Bogota WMA, near Dyersburg.
Join TWRA and its waterfowl partner organizations to spend time with fellow duck hunters, talk with waterfowl biologists and habitat managers, hear the latest research, and shop from local vendors.
