Memphis vegan eatery Rawgirls is closing after 13 years in business.

Rawgirls, which serves plant-based and gluten-free soups, salads and juices, will officially close both the Downtown Memphis location as well as its food truck on Aug. 1.

In a long and heartfelt message posted on their Facebook page, owners Amy and Hannah Pickle thanked Memphis for many years of patronage and support.

"For 13 years, you've embraced us, an openly gay couple who dared to serve raw and cooked vegan foods under a name that, let's be honest, might have been better suited for a burlesque show," the statement read. "But you, Memphis, saw past the irony and into our hearts."

The couple are closing Rawgirls primarily for personal reasons — they planned to leave Memphis after their daughter graduated high school, and sell the business. Unfortunately, a deal fell through three days before closing, but they decided to continue with their initial plans to shut down.

Rawgirls isn't disappearing entirely, however. The Pickles have a plan to keep the concept alive.

"We're working on a new platform for Rawgirls, a digital sanctuary where we'll share our treasure trove of recipes, videos on how to recreate our beloved foods and juices, lifestyle tips, yoga, and even our musings on the mysteries of the universe," the couple said.

Their new YouTube channel will share content with their Instagram, Facebook and TikTok pages, as well as a new website, where visitors can order "supplements and products, keeping the spirit of Rawgirls alive in your own kitchen."

After closing, the Pickles said they plan to take a long vacation: helping their daughter set up her apartment at Arizona State University, taking a month-long "yoga and meditation intensive" in India, and finally a trip to Spain, where they're considering staying permanently.

Though the end of Rawgirls in Memphis is approaching, it's the start of a new chapter for the Pickles, and that chapter still includes their beloved café.

"Rawgirls was a beautiful accident, and we're excited to see where this journey takes us next," the couple said. "Stay tuned — our story is far from over."
