MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Every Tuesday, as part of our Greater Memphis on a Mission series, we highlight organizations making Memphis better. This week, we caught up with a group that believes in accessibility to mental health.

Merci Memphis is a nonprofit organization that provides mental, emotional and healing support. The organization covers topics like grief and loss, trauma, and pet bereavement, as well as traditional psychotherapy methods.

Nancy Liebbe is the Executive Director. “We also care for people here who are living with HIV. We provide mental health support for them.”

Merci Memphis wants to remove any barriers that might stop someone from seeking help– because it is okay to not be okay. “I also think we’re back to stigma, what other people might think about this, or in relationships where there might be shame,” said Liebbe.

As for cost, “We have a sliding scale that runs from 75 to $125,” Liebbe said. “But we know that’s not always possible. So we have lately begun the process of credentialing with insurance because our commitment is to access to care.”

They also offer Telehealth for people who may not be able to make it into the office.

Robert Wilkins-Wiley has been attending weekly sessions at Merci Memphis for the last four years. “They were able to bring me from out of a suicidal situation into a stable situation where I was healthy and able to function again.”
