MEMPHIS, Tenn. — If college is your next step, your deadline for financial aid is around the corner.

Thursday night, crucial FAFSA workshops are happening in downtown Memphis to help families navigate the process of applying for aid, racing against an August 1 FAFSA deadline.

“A lot of familes are having trouble working through the FAFSA application and the deadline had to be extended,” said Lisa Williams with Seeding Success.

That’s where MORE FOR MEMPHIS steps in, teaming up with the state, so families and students have free opportunities for help with things like eligibility, what documents you need and common mistakes to avoid.

“It’s so important that people that there are other people that care about their success and access and ability to thrive. We have these resources so why not meet people with them,” Williams said.

Williams says for many, the Free Application for Federal Student Aid, is the only option to afford college.

“Until we live in a society where college is free, it’s good for people to do that free application and see what kind of support they can get,” she said.

There is another session Thursday night with dinner provided from 6-8 p.m. at Central Station Hotel.
