Popular ‘Cronut’ Pop-Up Planning First Storefront

A local bakery renowned for its croissant donuts—affectionately dubbed “cronuts”—is planning its first-ever storefront.

Barefruit Cafe recently mentioned on social media that they are working toward opening their inaugural brick-and-mortar location, though it’s still in the early planning stages and specifics remain undisclosed for now.

Leilani Evans , who owns the bakery with her husband Blake, first began selling her baked goods in October of 2023 at Millington’s Lightfoot Farm Market, where she initially offered coffee.

On a whim, Evans decided to add her home-baked cronuts—flaky, croissant-like creations disguised as donuts—to their market stall. The response was immediate and enthusiastic, with the sweet treats often selling out before they even reached the display case.

Today, Barefruit Cafe enjoys the same fervent demand, with customers frequently purchasing cronuts online and at various pop-up events throughout the Greater Memphis area.

The cronut menu features a dynamic selection of both classic and seasonal flavors, including Crème Brûlée, Vanilla Bean Crème, Key Lime, Samoa, Strawberry Éclair, Choco Taco, and French Toast.

Evans promised to provide updates as the storefront plans progress. In the meantime, don’t miss Barefruit Cafe’s pop-up sale every Saturday at Side Porch Steakhouse in Bartlett, starting July 20, 2024, and continuing through the summer.

UPDATE: This article has been updated to reflect the correct ownership by Leilani and Blake Evans and to clarify that the storefront details are still in the planning stages.
