MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The Memphis Police Department says they are currently looking for a suspect who fired shots at an officer overnight in North Memphis.

Just before 4 a.m., officers say while they were driving to a call for service they saw a vehicle speeding past Springdale Street and turn onto Matthews Avenue.

The officer stopped at the intersection, attempting to see which way the vehicle was going to go. That is when the passenger got out and started shooting at the officer.

The officer says he and the squad car were not struck. He also did not return gunfire.

MPD says the suspect’s vehicle is a dark-colored Nissan sedan.

This is still an ongoing investigation.
