MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A man accused of two murders last year has been given a $1 million bond, according to the Shelby County District Attorney General.

Demario Luellen, 26, is indicted on two counts of first-degree murder. Reports state that his charges stem from a shooting in 2023 that left two men dead.

ADA Devon Dennis says he advocated denying Luellen bond or setting it at $1 million. Ultimately, Judge Jones decided to set the bond to $1 million and cited that Luellen posed a significant risk to the community due to the strong case against him and the high likelihood of conviction.

Luellen was arrested last year after police say they were searching for a woman accused of stealing a purse from a mother’s car outside a daycare and charging hundreds of dollars on her cards.

Police were able to track the woman’s address to Parkway Village. While searching the home, deputies found Demario Luellen, who had an active warrant for first-degree murder from June 2023.

Demario Luellen’s next court date is scheduled for August 28 at 9 a.m.
