MEMPHIS – Mentioned in possible moves since the February trade deadline, the Grizzlies have finally parted ways with former lottery pick Ziaire Williams.

The Grizzlies trading Williams to the Brooklyn Nets for a 2030 second round pick while also acquiring two players including forward Mamadi Diakite. Neither player is expected to make the Grizzlies roster next season.

That means this deal was all about dumping Williams’ six-point-one million dollar salary and giving the team financial and roster flexibility for future moves. Like, let’s say re-signing Luke Kennard.

After being taken 10th overall in the 2021 draft, Williams had a solid rookie year but struggled the last two seasons while dealing with injuries.

Williams played in 150 games in the Beale Street Blue but averaged just seven and a half points a game.
