Thomas, Smalls, Newsom, and Neely return to Briarcrest for free kids’ camp

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — One of the many joys in life is to give back, especially to the community that helped you along the way. This is why former Briarcrest stars Jabari Smalls, Omari Thomas, Reggie Neely, and Rodney Newsom returned to where their journeys started.

” That’s something I’ve been brought up on, just always putting yourself before others and it’s amazing just to have this opportunity and to be out here and to do that,” said current Tennessee Vol defensive tackle Omari Thomas.

” Me and my friends thought it would be a good idea because we grew up watching amazing athletes like Penny Hardaway. I’m currently playing with Tony Pollard, so just to put more faces in the kids’ faces so that they know they can do whatever you want to do,” said current Tennessee Titan running back Jabari Smalls.

” To come back and see these kids are participating, it’s a good thing for all of us,” said South Alabama cornerback Reggie Neely.

” It’s something that I wanted when I was growing up, but I didn’t have that opportunity. So if I can pass it along to the next person, I can make somebody better today,” said Western Kentucky offensive lineman Rodney Newsom Jr.

Saturday Omari Thomas will host his second annual school supply drive at St. Paul Elementary School from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
