MEMPHIS – It’s a sound Tiger fans have been waiting on for months.  Make that years.

Phase two of the upgrades to Simmons Bank Liberty Stadium getting underway Monday morning with the demolition to a majority of the west side of the stadium. A process that will remove some 25,000 tons of concrete.

This is a three phase, 220 million dollar renovation project to the almost 60 year stadium. A rebuild that will take two years to finish and set to be completed at the start of the 2026 football season.

“What a great day for our university, our football program, the University of Memphis Athletics program and the city of Memphis,” said Memphis interim Athletic Director Jeff Crane. “Today is about an investment in the university, an investment in our football program, an investment in our city.”

Crane also knows these upgrades will only enhance the homefield atmosphere for the Tigers.

“We’re one of the only six programs in the country that have won 56 or more games in the last ten years at home. So investing in our home is a big part of our success going forward.”
