UPDATE, July 24: Memphis Police responded to this news with a statement.
During the night of the incident July 20, responders could not clearly see charred remains inside the burned vehicle.
On the morning of July 22, an MPD officer examined the burned vehicle closer. At that time, the charred remains of a body were discovered in the rear passenger area of the car.
Police say this case is being investigated as a homicide. MPD is also conducting an internal review of the incident.
MEMPHIS, Tenn. — First responders found a body inside of a vehicle at the MPD’s impound lot, police announced.
The vehicle found at the impound lot has been connected to 20-year-old Jaderius Webb, the Horn Lake Police Department said.
On July 20, first responders made the scene of a vehicle fire at Weaver and Tully. The fire was extinguished and the burned vehicle was taken to the vehicle impound lot at 465 Kline.
An unidentified body was later recovered from inside of the burned vehicle.

On Saturday, the family of Webb reported him missing to the HLPD. That same day, his vehicle was found burned by the Memphis Police Department.
Memphis Police are now investigating this incident as a homicide.
According to the Horn Lake Police Department, DNA testing is being completed to confirm the identity of the remains, which are believed to be Jaderius Webb’s.
“These changes will ensure that every vehicle is thoroughly checked and we never let an incident like this happen again,” Rallings said.
Hernandez’s family hired an attorney and filed a $300,000 lawsuit against the city, saying the victim could have survived if he was found.
“Our evidence and the testimony of the medical examiner said it was possible for Bardomiano to survive had he received immediate care,” attorney Murray Wells said.
Nine people were disciplined and eight officers were suspended.
In recent months, the city handed over management of its impound lot to a private company called Vehicle Management Solutions.
