NEW JERSEY - Two New Jersey swimmers, Matt Fallon of Warren and Jack Alexy of Mendham, have earned spots in the U.S. trials for the 2024 Olympics, which kick off in Paris on July 26. Fallon broke the American record in the 200-meter breaststroke, while Alexy secured his spot in the 100-meter freestyle by outperforming a seven-time gold medalist.

Fallon, a 2021 graduate of the Pingry School in Basking Ridge, broke numerous records during his high school career. Notably, he set the National Independent High School Record in the 400-meter freestyle with a time of 3:50.65, surpassing the previous record of 3:51.32 set in 2008 by Martin Grodski of The Baylor School and outpacing the public school record of 3:53.30 set in 2017 by Destin Lasco of Mainland Regional High School.

Fallon was also part of Pingry's 2021 winning 400 freestyle relay and 200 medley relay teams. Additionally, he holds the National Independent High School Record in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:01.04, achieved in 2019.

Now an incoming senior at the University of Pennsylvania, Fallon has continued to excel in his swimming career. Years of 6:00 a.m. practices, countless hours traveling to meets, and millions of yards in the pool have brought him to the forefront of the 2024 U.S. Olympic Team. His dedication paid off when he medaled at the 2023 World Championships, solidifying his status as a frontrunner for the Olympics.

Fallon was often described as "a little ball of energy" during his summers swimming at New Providence Community Pool. He began his competitive swimming journey at age five with the Greater Somerset County YMCA club team in Warren, NJ. By 15, he had set two YMCA national records and gained attention for his "back-half" technique, where he swims faster in the second half of the race.

Fallon's international debut came in 2019 at the World Junior Championships, representing the U.S. in the 200-meter breaststroke. He continued to impress on the world stage, finishing third in the 100-meter breaststroke at the 2023 World Championships. His dedication and hard work have positioned him as a frontrunner for the 2024 U.S. Olympic Team.
