Jeff Spears Tapped as Next Faculty-to-Student Mentorship Coordinator for Statewide Campuses
Price, Utah — James Taylor, Utah State University vice president for Statewide Campuses, and Vice Provost Pam Dupin-Bryant have selected Jeff Spears from the USU Eastern campus as the next coordinator for the statewide faculty-to-student mentoring program. Spears replaced David Law, who as of Aug. 1 officially took the role of associate vice president at USU Uintah Basin.
USU Research to Supply Crops With Resources to Withstand Climate Change, Drought
New research from Utah State University engineers aims to improve crop health by curbing two major factors: climate change and drought. David Britt, a professor in the biological engineering department, will work with Joe Robins in the Agricultural Research Service, a subsidiary of the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Celeste Maloy narrowly won the Republican primary in Utah’s 2nd Congressional District on Tuesday after the state Supreme Court rejected her challenger’s lawsuit that asked justices to count a batch of ballots with late postmarks after Maloy defeated him in a recount by fewer than 200 votes. Upper Basin states propose agreement with U.S. Bureau of Reclamation
Colorado River water managers are moving forward with a plan to track and get credit for conserved water. The Upper Colorado River Commission on Monday voted unanimously to move ahead with the creation of a memorandum of understanding with the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation that would provide accounting and credit to the Upper Basin states (Colorado, New Mexico, Utah and Wyoming) for water saved through conservation programs. It would also identify qualifying criteria for water conservation projects. A draft of the agreement is expected by the end of September.
Three Utah State Gymnasts Garner Scholastic All-America Accolades
LOGAN, Utah – Utah State's gymnastics team was one of 63 programs to be recognized by the Women's Collegiate Gymnastics Association, while three gymnasts were named Scholastic All-Americans, it was announced by the organization on Wednesday. As a team, Utah State earned a 3.59 grade point average for the 2023-24 academic year. Individually, graduate Lexi Aragon (environmental engineering), graduate Juliette Boyer (law & constitutional studies) and freshman Hattie Wright (kinesiology) were honored for maintaining a 4.0 GPA during the academic year.
