Encampment Dwellers Refuse to Relocate
That was the predominant question during Montpelier’s Aug. 14 City Council meeting concerning a tent encampment created by about a dozen unhoused people that has been increasing in size since the former Elks Club shelter closed May 29. New Pipes Under School Street Might Be In by Start of School
Blame the July flood for the two-week delay in a major project on Montpelier’s School Street, which, had it started on time, would have easily been completed before the first day of school on Aug. 28. Capital City Concerts Opens 25th Anniversary Season
Founded in 2000 by flutist Karen Kevra, Capital City Concerts (CCC) opens its 25th season in September with concerts running through May of 2025. In 2000, with the help of enthusiastic community members and guidance from her mentor the late Louis Moyse, Karen Kevra founded Capital City Concerts, a classical chamber music series based in Montpelier.

Unicorn seeks a comfy home with rooms to explore and a human to cuddle with on those colder nights. Previously, Unicorn was an indoor-only cat and was surrendered because of her owner’s health and not being able to care for her anymore. Every day, Unicorn comes out of her shell more and seeks attention from staff and volunteers. She is currently in a colony room with a feline friend and seems unfazed by the companionship of the other cats. Unicorn has never been exposed to dogs or children.

PCB contamination delays start for North Country Union High School
NEWPORT, Vt. (WCAX) - Students at North Country Union High School in Newport will start school late because of PCB contamination. Thursday, school officials said the school will open with ninth-grade orientation on Sept. 3, and classes will commence on Sept. 4 and be conducted out of tents or other repurposed spaces.
