Vermont police officer facing charge of aggravated assault during arrest
ST. JOHNSBURY, Vt. (AP) — A Vermont police officer is facing a charge of aggravated assault for his use of force while attempting to arrest a man during an altercation in St. Johnsbury in May, state police said. St. Johnsbury police Sgt. George Johnson did not have sufficient cause to stop John Stelzl, 35, who was walking on a street near a bridge on May 10, state police said. A physical altercation ensued and Johnson used excessive force on Stelzl, who was taken to the hospital for treatment of significant injuries, state police said. Stelzl was later released from the hospital, police said. Police did not provide any details on the type of force allegedly used or Stelzl’s injuries. Stelzl originally was charged with multiple violations. The Caledonia County prosecutor’s office dismissed the charges after a review of Johnson’s body camera footage, police said.

First-Year Fellows Program Yields Exciting Summer in the D.C. Swamp
When the wondrous halls of Dartmouth College shuttered its doors to the students (save for the sophomores), I set off towards Washington D.C, to partake in the Rockefeller Center’s First Year Fellows program. Joined by 19 other Dartmouth students in a dormitory just a block away from Capitol Hill, my experience this summer was, most fortunately, far from Dartmouth-free.
Editorial: On Dartmouth’s Unique Term
Before I sat down to write this editorial, I looked back at what previous summer editors had to say about their sophomore summers. Disregarding the tired and now-ancient references to the pandemic, I gathered that, in the aggregate, the ’24s and ’25s approached their summer terms with optimism and enjoyed a formative experience. Sunset hikes and days on the dock aplenty, I can surmise that their summers were all—or, at least most—of what they were supposed to be. After all, the still-impressionable underclassmen are told time and time again how special the summer is.
Summer of Construction: Campus Sees Updates as New Housing is Planned
President Beilock has more proposed changes to the Dartmouth College landscape than one can count on their hands. I’ll grant you, she’s not changing the skyline—we have Hanlon to thank for the major additions of the Irving Center and the Engineering and Computer Science Center—but her administration is working to address the current housing crisis at the College.
