Menlo Park police arrested a 26-year-old Redwood City man accused of being involved in two armed robberies Sunday evening.

Police responded to the first report of an armed robbery at 7:09 p.m. Sunday at a 7-Eleven store in Menlo Park. Ten minutes later, San Mateo County Sheriff's deputies responded to a second armed robbery report at a Shell gas station about 2 miles away.

The suspect fled the Shell and was detained after a brief vehicle and foot pursuit, police said.

The firearm police recovered was determined to be a replica handgun, according to a statement from the Menlo Park Police Department. While the firearm looked like a handgun, police determined it was a BB gun, according to Menlo Park police spokesperson Nicole Acker.

The stolen items were also recovered.

The suspect is being held at the Maguire Correctional Facility in Redwood City on a $450,000 bail, according to booking records from the San Mateo County Sheriff's Office.
