MENOMINEE — Five members of the Menominee boys basketball team collected All-Great Northern Conference recognition in a vote determined by the coaches of the GNC on Friday.
Senior Trevor Theuerkauf and his younger brother, sophomore Tanner Theuerkauf, headline the All-GNC First Team.
Joining the Theuerkauf brothers on the First Team are Kingsford’s Gavin Grondin, Marquette’s Jaxon Jurmu and Gladstone’s Drake Johnson.
“Trevor is one of the best competitors and leaders that I have ever been around. He has really run the show for us the last couple years, and has been a coach on the floor at all times. His assist to turnover ratio is extremely high for a high school player and shows he has really high level decision-making skills,” Menominee coach Sam Larson said. “Tanner was one of the most talented players in the conference this year. He attacks the rim hard and puts a lot of pressure on the defense. I think the sky’s the limit for what he can become.”
Grondin was also named the GNC Defensive Player of the Year.
Senior Connor Coduti received All-GNC Second Team honors, while fellow senior Eli Beal was one of five players to receive Special Mention.
Jack Quinnell (Marquette), Cody Noel (Escanaba), Wyatt Lakanen (Marquette) and Jacob Markworth (Kingsford) were the other four.
“Connor’s shooting ability adds another dimension to our offense. He has matured a ton from his sophomore year to his senior year. Connor has really shown a concerted effort on the defensive end of the floor this last half of the season as well, which has made us a much better team,” Larson said. “Eli’s value cannot be measured in stats for us. Every night he has to go to war against bigger, taller players, and he just battles. He is the anchor for us on the defensive end, and has been a huge part of what we do.”
Shane Wallin (Escanaba), Kaden Gibbs (Gladstone), Kyler Sager (Marquette) and Cardel Morton (Kingsford) round out the Second Team.
Sophomore Darrent Butler garnered Honorable Mention, alongside Escanaba’s David Romps and Javon Stevenson, Marquette’s Connor Fierstine and Gladstone’s Nick Matthews.
“Darrent took a big jump from his freshman to sophomore year. I thought he was more aggressive offensively this season, and hopefully will continue that trend into the future,” Larson said.
Marquette’s Jacob MacPhee was honored as GNC Player of the Year after helping guide Marquette to a perfect 8-0 conference record.
Marquette also captured the JV GNC crown with a 7-1 record, while Menominee won the freshmen GNC title at 8-0.
Marquette’s Rich Ledy took home Coach of the Year.
