Barker, Olson go deep as Maroons down Broncos in doubleheader

MENOMINEE — The hit parade was in full swing for the Menominee softball team on Wednesday, as the Lady Maroons clobbered Bark River-Harris in a non-conference doubleheader.

Menominee took both contests easily, winning game one 9-5 before wrapping up the sweep with a 12-4 blowout in game two.

Menominee racked up 32 base hits between the two games, 14 of which went for extra bases.

Mady Barker belted a home run in game two, giving her 10 moonshots for her career, a Menominee High School record.

Kam Olson got in on the long-ball action in game two, legging out an inside-the-park home run. She also hit two doubles and a triple, finishing just a single short of the cycle.

Olson pitched the Maroons to victory in game one, tossing seven innings of three-hit ball to go with nine strikeouts, 10 walks and five earned runs.

Barker stalked the circle in game two and gave up just four hits and six walks against seven punchouts.

Menominee never trailed in either contest. The Maroons jumped ahead 2-0 in the bottom of the first inning of game one before plating a trio of runs in the third and fourth innings to cruise to victory.

Game two saw Menominee build an 8-0 cushion through the first two frames before the Broncos trimmed their deficit to three with a two-run outburst in their half of the third.

Ella Barker collected three base knocks in game two and was one of five Maroons to tally a multi-hit game. Mady Barker, Abby Johnson, Olson and Phoebe Barrette were the others.
