MENOMINEE — Good times continue to roll for the Menominee softball team, as the Lady Maroons clobbered Westwood in Friday’s non-conference doubleheader.

Menominee improved to 5-3 overall with Friday’s twinbill triumph. The Maroons have won four straight games.

Runs were plentiful for both teams on Friday, with Menominee fending off the Patriots to notch a 16-10 victory in game one.

Game two saw the Maroons wrap up the sweep after riding a five-run eruption in the bottom of the fourth inning to a 10-5 decision.

Mady Barker continued her assault on the Menominee High School record books with a solo home run in game one, giving the senior shortstop 11 career homers, the most in school history.

Addy Johnson and Kam Olson also got in on the long-ball action after Johnson hammered a two-run shot in game one before Olson smacked a dinger in game two, giving the Maroons 10 homers in just eight games.

Westwood managed to jump out to a 1-0 lead in game one before RBIs from Kadyn Olsen and Phoebe Barrette helped push the Maroons out to a 6-1 advantage.

Johnson’s moonshot coupled with a two-RBI knock from Olsen increased Menominee’s lead to 10-2 in the bottom of the third, but Westwood continued to chip away with two runs in the top of the fourth and another in the bottom of the fifth, trimming the Maroons’s lead to six in the process.

Westwood enjoyed a four-run outburst in the top of the sixth to pull within two before Barker’s home run and a three-run single from Barrette nudged Menominee ahead 16-9.

The Patriots also led 1-0 in the early stages of game two before Menominee knotted the score up at 1-1 in the bottom of the first.

Westwood built a 2-1 lead in the top of the third but the Maroons responded with five runs in the bottom of the fourth to seize a four-run cushion.

Three runs in the Patriots half of the fifth inning made it a one-run game but the Maroons plated a quartet of runs in the bottom of the frame before Ella Barker finished Westwood off on the mound.

Ella Barker was the winning pitcher in game two after allowing four hits, two runs (one earned) and one walk in three innings of work, striking out two in the process.

Olson collected the win in game one, spinning five innings of eight-hit ball while permitting six earned runs and a pair of free passes against four punchouts.

Menominee out-hit Westwood 17-13 in game one and 12-9 in game two. The Maroons also did not commit an error in either game, while the Patriots had three miscues, two of which came in game one.
