MENOMINEE — There’s a new burger in town.

The owners of The Boys’ Burger Company in Menominee are serving up fast-food-style burgers on U.S. 41 in the former A&W building, 3730 10th St., Menominee.

The brains behind the business, Rodney Kaufman, owner and partner, and Kris Smith, owner and general manager, live in Marinette.

Smith has worked for the business for 16 years, and Kaufman has been in the restaurant business for 30 years, having opened several restaurants in the area.

    The business, complete with a drive-thru, is open 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Fridays.

With their new venture, they’re starting a burger of the month and offering wraps and sandwiches in addition to their diner-themed menu staples of burgers, hot dogs, chili dogs and ice cream.

“Some have been suggestions from Facebook fans,” Smith said.

They also plan to keep their hours but would accommodate later hours, depending on demand, Smith said.

The owners and staff have not changed, and the menu has stayed the same, with a slight change in supplier contacts for their menu items, WHO said. Prices are also staying the same.

“Our food costs have gone up, but we’ve left the prices alone,” Smith said.

They’re keeping the favorites, like cheese curds and sweet treats.

“We still have root beer floats,” Smith said. “We’re keeping root beer ice cream as well.”

The menu lists burgers, chicken, hot dogs, brats, seafood, pork, sides, soups and sweet treats as the main fare.

The change will allow them to improve the items and service.

“We just want to expand our menu,” Kaufman said.

The sizes of their burgers have increased with the change, Kaufman said. They’ve also considered adding a breakfast to their services.

“I would like to see the dining room become more of a diner setting with actual meals that would only be available inside,” Smith said, incentivizing customers to walk through the doors.

For those curious about what to try from their menu, they recommend cheese curds, chicken tenders and the pork tenderloin sandwich.

It’s been a process to find new packaging and products, who said. They visited two conventions in Green Bay this week to research new items.

The business plans to make more investments in local charities while continuing its work with youth baseball and soccer, veterans, food pantries and the animal shelter.

They plan to continue their “share nights,” where a percentage of proceeds goes toward an organization.

The fast-food restaurant is offering online ordering through its website, theboysburgercompany.com, and through Doordash.

How did their name come about?

“Our friends all call us ‘the boys,’” Smith said. “It stuck, so we decided to go with The Boys’ Burger Company.

    Brothers? Cousins?

    “Husbands.”

After 20 years together, they’re still both equally obsessed with business.

“We talk about the restaurant constantly,” Kaufman said. “It’s a lot of work. It’s 24/7.”
