    Peacock, Eskymos carve up Menominee

    2024-05-11

ESCANABA — Lennox Peacock kept the Menominee High School baseball team off balance all afternoon as the Ekymos throttled the Maroons 10-0 in Great Northern Conference action on Thursday.

Peacock spun five shutout innings of two-hit ball, with the sophomore hurler issuing a pair of walks while racking up 11 strikeouts in process.

Garrett Carlson collected a two-out single in the top of the first inning while Landan Bardowski led off the third with a base knock of his own before moving into scoring position with a stolen base, but Peacock retired Torin Davis, Carlson and Cam Gauthier in order to get Esky out of the jam.

Menominee also failed to capitalize on a scoring opportunity in the top of the second after Drew Olsen worked a two-out walk before moving up to second base on a free pass issued to Kyle Kenny, as Peacock got Aiden Sevon to go down swinging to end the inning.

Escanaba took control of matters in the bottom of the second after Mikaiden Hughes and Ashton Rymkos doubled up on singles before Carlson issued a free pass to Cannon Arnt to load the bases.

Carlson plucked Nick Chiu to score Hughes and kick off the Eskymos’ scoring barrage, as Chase Cloutier, Eli Gardner, Ben Johnson and Bon LaChance drew consecutive walks, while a two-RBI single from Hughes put Escanaba on top 7-0.

Escanaba plated two more runs in its half of the third to make it a nine-run game before Cloutier scored on an error in the fourth to make it a 10-0 affair,..

Menominee needed to scratch across at least one run in the fifth to avoid the 10-run mercy rule but Peacock had other ideas, punching out Kenny, Sevon and Bardowski, in order to end the game.

Bardowski went 1-for-3 at the dish with a single and a stolen base. Carlson was 1-of-2, while Olsen and Kenny both went 0-1 with a walk.

Carlson was the losing pitcher after giving up three hits, eight walks and eight earned runs in two innings of work.
