Maroon girls take second at Escanaba GNC meet

ESCANABA — Wet course conditions didn’t slow down the Menominee girls golf team on Thursday, as the Lady Maroons authored their best finish of the season at the Escanaba Country Club.

Buoyed by sub-60 scores by all four of its golfers, Menominee finished second overall in the team standings at 212, just 10 strokes behind the Eskymos, who rode top-four finishes from Kamrie Scott and Maddie Wilson to first place at a combined 202 strokes.

Marquette’s Abby Luke shot a medalist-score of 41 to help the Lady Sentinels place third with 217.

Kingsford (221) was fourth, while Gladstone finished in a distant fifth place at 301. Grace Maki led the Lady Flivvers with a low-round score of 48, putting her in third place in the individual standings.

Ava Chouinard and Mackenzie Doyle led the Maroon girls with identical scores of 51, putting the Menominee duo in a tie for fifth place.

Lexi Marineau (53) finished in a three-way deadlock with Esky’s Danni Hughes and Kingsford’s Maddy Zeuske for eighth place, while Anna Axtell shot 57 to tie Marquette’s Ella Pond for 12th overall.

With just two conference matches left to play on the season, Menominee is currently fourth in the Great Northern Conference standings with 10 points.

Escanaba (17) holds a two-point advantage over Kingsford (15), while Marquette (14) lurks behind in third place. Gladstone (4) is fifth.
