    Maroon girls 4x400 relay team continues to roll at Negaunee

    NEGAUNEE — The Menominee High School track and field team tuned up for Regionals with a strong showing at the Negaunee Lions Invitational on Friday.

    Both Maroon squads took fifth place overall, with the Menominee girls racking up 51 points while the boys accumulated 32.

    Marquette won the boys’ competition handedly with 171.83 points, more than 50 points ahead of runner-up Kingsford, who finished with 117.

    Negaunee came out on top of the girls’ action with 136, while Marquette (90) edged Gladstone (83) by seven points to take second place.

    Gianna Coduti, Emily Schuettpeltz, Lexi Marineau and Erin Schuettpeltz continued their dominance in the 1,600-meter with a first-place time of 4:27.73, making Friday the fourth consecutive time that the Menominee quartet has topped the event.

    Mackenzi Pesola replaced Marineau as the Maroon girls finished second in the 800m relay after crossing the finish line in 1:56.42.

    Winley Brandt ran the 3,200m and finished with a new personal-record of 13:30.74, good for fourth overall.

    After fourth straight top-four finishes, Erika Peterson finally won the shot put with a throw measuring 28 feet, nine inches. She also picked up her second straight second-place toss in the discus with a new personal-record of 97” 2’.

    In the high jump, Erin Schuettpeltz (4’ 8”) was third, while Emily Schuettpeltz (4’ 8”) was fifth.

    On the boys’ side, Darrent Butler soared to first place in the high jump with a season-best leap of 6” 0’.

    Nathan Komp ran a new personal-best time in the 200m dash, finishing second overall in 52.47 seconds. He also participated in the 200m dash and placed fifth with a time of 24.30.

    Komp, alongside Brayden Bourion, Dawson Bardowski and Maverick Geniesse, took second in the 1,600m relay with a time of 3:49.08.

    Menominee received a fourth-place finish from its 3,200m relay team of Brayden Bourion, Caleb Barstow, Blake Bourion and Geniesse, with the foursome running the event in 9:22.18.

    Up nextMenominee: The Maroons compete in the MHSAA U.P. Region 41 championships on Wednesday at Gladstone, with action getting underway beginning at 2:30 p.m. central time.
