MENOMINEE — For the second straight game, a lack of run support doomed the Menominee High School baseball team, as Oconto posted a 8-0 shutout over the Maroons on Monday at Spies Field.

Coming off a 10-0 loss to Escanaba four days prior that saw the Maroons muster only two base hits, Menominee was once again limited to just a pair of base knocks by Blue Devils hurler Riley Susa.

Oconto feasted on Menominee miscues early, with Kyle Bowman scoring on a passed ball by Cam Gauthier in the top of the first inning, before another run scored on a wild pitch to give the Blue Devils a 2-0 lead.

Susa scored on an RBI-groundout by Brayden Gard in the top of the third, while ribbies by Collin Baumann and Cooper Campshure lifted the Blue Devils out to a 5-0 advantage.

Oconto put the finishing touches on its scoring barrage in the top of the six behind RBIs from Bowman and Baumann, while Campshure came around to score on an error to make it an 8-0 game.

Menominee was able to get a runner on base in the bottom of the sixth after Susa plucked Garrett Carlson with a pitch, but the Maroons were unable to capitalize after Gauthier went down swinging to end the inning.

The Maroons repeated the same pattern in their half of the seventh, with Drew Olsen reaching first base on a hit by pitch before Kyle Kenny struck out to end the game.

Carlson and Dylan Beal were responsible for Menominee’s two hits on Monday.

While hits were hard to come by for the Maroons, Menominee did see Landan Bardowski work a pair of walks, while Gable Buck and Torin Davis reached base on a fielder’s choice and an error, respectively.

Bardowski also added a trio of stolen bases.

Buck was the losing pitcher after allowing three runs, but only earned, through two-and-third-quarter innings of work. He did not give up a hit, but did issue three free passes while striking out two.

Susa racked up 12 strikeouts in a winning effort on the mound.

Menominee will travel to Marinette to play STAA on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. before hosting the Cavaliers on Thursday at Spies Field, with first pitch set for 7 p.m.
