Cavaliers stun Menominee on wild-pitch walkoff

    2024-05-16

MARINETTE — The St. Thomas Aquinas Academy Baseball team took a thrilling 11-10 victory over Menominee on Wednesday.

Both offenses were clicking, combining to score 21 runs on 19 hits.

Menominee led throughout the contest but could not silence STAA’s offense in the latter innings.

Both teams scored two runs in the first inning.

Menominee pulled ahead with an RBI single from Dylan Beal in the third and an RBI single from Torin Davis in the fourth.

Each team scored a pair in the fifth, but Menominee took an 8-5 lead when it scored two runs without the benefit of a hit in the sixth inning.

STAA batted around in the bottom of the sixth. The Cavaliers took advantage of three walks and a hit batter and sprinkled in an RBI single from Jake Farley and a run-scoring double from Teagan Anderson to score five runs and take their first lead at 10-8.

The Maroons tied the game in the seventh when they scored two runs on a hit and two STAA errors.

With two outs in the bottom of the seventh, Farley walked, stole second, advanced to third on a passed ball and scored the game-winning run on a wild pitch.

Farley got the job done on the mound and at the plate for the Cavaliers.

The Cavalier freshman went 2-for-4 with an RBI and four runs scored out of the leadoff spot and also picked up the win with three innings of relief work. He allowed six runs, all of them unearned, on just two hits and three walks while striking out five.

Davis took the tough-luck loss. He did not allow a hit while allowing two unearned runs in two innings pitched.

The loss spoiled terrific days at the plate for Davis and Beal. Davis went 3-for-4 with a double, two RBI and two runs scored while Beal was 3-for-4 with three runs batted in and a run scored.
