MENOMINEE — Good times continued to roll for the Menominee High School softball team in Thursday’s doubleheader against Marquette.

Equipped with an offense that tore the leather off the ball, the Maroons smashed the Sentinels 10-3 in game one before securing the sweep with a 9-4 triumph in the nightcap.

The Maroons have now won four straight games.

Menominee out-hit Marquette by a combined margin of 31-to-17, with seven of them going for extra bases.

Both games began with Menominee holding a 2-1 lead at the end of the first inning, and both contests unfolded in similar manners.

Game one saw the Sentinels knot matters up with a run in the top of the third before the Maroons regained the advantage for good after hanging a crooked number on the scoreboard in their half of the frame.

Menominee piled on with a six-run outburst in the bottom of the fifth to seize a 10-2 lead before Marquette managed to scratch a run across in the sixth.

Marquette looked to reverse its fortunes in game two after plating a trio of runs in the top of the second to take 4-2 lead, but Ella Barker and Kam Olson managed to shut down the Sentinels by pitching four straight innings of shutout softball.

Menominee tied matters up with a two-spot in the bottom of the third before taking the lead behind a five-run fifth inning.

Mady Barker and Addy Johnson each belted a home run to give Menominee a total of 26 dingers on the season.

Kadyn Olsen served as the Maroons’ offensive catalyst in game one, going a perfect 3-3 at the plate with two doubles, three runs scored, one walk and an RBI.

Olson, Mady Barker and Phoebe Barrette all went 2-4 in game one.

Mady Barker and Ollsen both collected a stolen base in game two, with Barker and Johnson adding a pair of RBIs in the process.

Ella Barker and Alyssa Graves each had two base knocks in three plate appearances in game two. Barker was also the winning pitcher, with seven hits, four earned runs and three walks issued through four innings pitched alongside four strikeouts.

Olsen notched the win in the circle in game one after giving up eight hits, three runs (two earned), one walk and a home run in seven innings of work. She racked up nine punchouts.

Due upMenominee: The Maroons hosted Stephenson in a non-conference doubleheader on Friday, with results unavailable at press time. Menominee hosts Escanaba on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. in the regular season finale.
