ISHPEMING — One of the most underrated and imposing records in the Bay Cities belongs to the Menominee Junior High School track and field team.

Every year, without fail, since 2007, either the Menominee boys or girls 4x100 relay team has won that event in every meet the Maroons have competed in, an awe-inspiring run of 17 years.

Bailee Klann, Asya Myhand, Allison Schuettpelz and Ryann Milostan weren’t about to let 2024 be the end of Menominee’s historic run.

Competing at the MHSAA Middle School/Junior High Zone 8 Regional championships, the quartet not only kept the Maroons’ monumental streak alive, they did so in emphatic fashion.

The Maroons’ Fantastic 4 scurried their way to first place in 54.86 seconds, breaking the Menominee Junior High School record in the process, to wrap up an undefeated season.

The Zone 8 Regional championships took place May 29 at Westwood High School.

The Maroon girls finished third overall as a team with 70 points, finishing two points behind runner-up Escanaba (72). Gladstone won the girls’ Regional crown with 90 points.

Negaunee captured the boys’ crown after racking up 89.5 points. Menominee accumulated 62 points to finish fourth overall, three points behind Bothwell (65) and three-and-half behind Esky, who again settled for second place with 65.5 points.

Brody Daigneau overcame his No. 3-seeding in the 400m run and edged Bark River-Harris’s Abram Varoni by five-tenths of a second, crossing the finish line in 58.69 seconds to take first place.

Tyler Bouty won the boys’ 55m hurdles with a new personal-best time of 29.09.

Menominee had two individual Regional champions on the girls’ side in Klann and Dakota Prahl.

Klann set the tone for the Lady Maroons with a first-place time of 9.98 seconds in the 700m dash, establishing a new personal-best in the process.

Meanwhile, in the 55m hurdles, Prahl sprinted her way to first place in 9.83 seconds.
