MENOMINEE — The Walton Blesch Stadium Legacy Foundation (WBSLF) announces that demolition of the old concrete bleachers at Blesch Stadium has begun. Installation of new bleachers is scheduled for July 15. The old bleachers are being torn down by Mike Biehl, MJB Industries, Marinette. Biehl has magnanimously volunteered to do the demolition job for free.

“The Walton Blesch Stadium Legacy Foundation is incredibly grateful to Mr. Mike Biehl. We had estimates for up to $250,000 for the demolition and disposal of the stadium bleachers. Mr. Biehl’s generosity and community spirit sent our project into overdrive,” said Dave Mathieu, vice President of the WBSLF.

Jordan Barley of Barley Construction has been very helpful with all the forms, permits, and procedures, Mathieu said. WBSLF president Jerry Derusha also singled out Biehl for his generosity and Barley for his commitment to the project.

The WBSLF is so thankful for all the community support from local businesses and individuals. The group has raised over half of the targeted goal, but more fundraising is still necessary.

Donations can be made on the group’s website: bleschstadium.org or checks can be mailed or dropped off at the Stephenson National Bank in Menominee.
