MENOMINEE — The Menominee Legion baseball team earned a doubleheader split against Marquette on Saturday at Spies Field.

The Red Wave took the opening salvo 4-2 but fell 7-5 to the Diamonds in game two.

Dylan Beal put Menominee on top 1-0 in the bottom of the first after crossing home plate on error before Marquette took a 2-1 lead at the top of the third.

Robert Finger blasted a two-run double to score Beal and Tyler Bouty, while James Stevens scored on wild pitch to put Menominee ahead by two in the bottom of the third.

Game two saw Cyle Kenny and Drew Olsen tally RBIs to give the Red Wave a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the first.

Kenny scored thanks to a wild pitch before Ethan Short plated Torin Davis with an RBI that nudged Menominee out to a three-run advantage, but a four-run outburst from Marquette in top of the sixth put the Red Wave in a 7-5 hole.

Menominee twice had an opportunity to cut into Marquette’s lead but came up short each time, with Aiden Short moving up to third base in the bottom of fifth before the inning ended on a groundout by Davis.

The Red Wave’s last gasp came in the bottom of the sixth after Short got on base thanks to an error, but Finger flew out to center field to end the game in favor of Marquette.
