Big Lots stores in Menomonee Falls, West Bend, Fond du Lac and Sheboygan will close

The Menomonee Falls and West Bend Big Lots will be permanently closing, store officials confirmed.

While the Menomonee Falls Big Lots, N78 W14511 Appleton Ave., opened in 2013, the West Bend Big Lots, 1690 S. Main St., just opened in February 2023, according to City of West Bend documents.

The Milwaukee location at 5667 S. 27th St. will not be closing, store officials said.

Big Lots locations in Fond du Lac and Sheboygan also will be permanently closing, according to store officials.

In 2022, Big Lots announced plans to open a store in Grafton in late 2023. But those plans fell through.

The Menomonee Falls, West Bend, Fond du Lac and Sheboygan stores did not provide a closing date; store representatives said it depends on inventory available and said they will be open until October at the latest. Discounts of up to 20% will be available at all closing stores.

In a U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission filing , the Ohio-based discount retail chain announced plans to close 35 to 40 stores this year because of financial challenges and a tough consumer market. The company reported 1,392 operating stores at the start of 2024, down from 1,425 in the first quarter of 2023.

“In 2024, the U.S. economy has continued to face macroeconomic challenges including elevated inflation, which has adversely impacted the buying power of our customers,” the filing from Big Lots said.
