“Exes and Ohs” singer Elle King revealed details of her troubled relationship with father Rob Schneider , whom King claims she hasn’t spoken to in “four or five years.” The 35-year-old musician, who recently announced her sobriety after a much-criticized performance at the Grand Ole Opry, made the revelations on the latest episode of Bunnie XO's Dumb Blonde podcast.

“I got four or five years without talking to my dad,” King explained. “I don’t want to be associated with him. He’s just not nice. You can want someone to change so much. You can’t control anyone else’s actions. You can’t control anyone else’s feelings. All you can control is how you react and what you do with your feelings.”

According to King, Schneider “forgot about every single birthday” during her childhood, including her 18th. “I spent my 18th birthday in a summer school and they brought me cupcakes, and I came home and my dad forgot my birthday,” she recalled.

King is the daughter of Schneider and former model London King, who divorced in 1989 just a year after King was born. Because they don’t share a last name, many people were unaware of King and Schneider’s relation until her first album dropped. “I put out my record and people finally started asking me about my dad. My dad called me and was like, ‘Don’t f---ing talk about me in the press,’” King claimed.

King reiterated that her father’s standing in the entertainment industry didn’t help her at all as she tried to break into the music world. “He didn’t have a very good reputation,” she said of the time during which she was mounting her career.

King ended the discussion by referring to recent headlines regarding controversial statements Schneider has made . “I disagree with a lot of the things that he says,” she asserted. “You’re talking out of your a-- and you’re talking s--t about drag and, you know, anti-gay rights and it’s like, get f---ed,” King told her father.

King added: “He’s just talking out of his a--, and I want to use this opportunity to say that I disagree. I do not agree with what he says.”

Schneider’s reps did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Men’s Journal .
