Kit Harington Is Latest Celeb With Blunt Comments on Marvel Job

Kit Harington became a household name thanks to Game of Thrones , and in 2021, the British actor joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe with a starring role in Eternals . When looking back on the role, Harington views the job as just that: a job.

The acclaimed actor shared his honest thoughts on playing Dane Whitman in an Aug. 12 interview with GQ . "I'm not gonna pretend I took that [role] because it was different and interesting," he stated plainly. "If Marvel calls, you gotta do it."

Eternals was originally rumored to have a sequel of some sort, whether in TV series or film form, but it was eventually scrapped. While it might sound like Harington hated the job and would never go back to the MCU, he clarified that he liked his character and would be interested to return if the sequel ever gets taken off the shelf.

Harington's words about working on Marvel movies were kind compared to those of some other MCU alums, to say the least. Thor: Love and Thunder star Christian Bale , for example, didn't mince words.

"I mean, the definition of it is monotony," he said in a 2022 GQ interview. “You’ve got good people. You’ve got other actors who are far more experienced at it than me. Can you differentiate one day from the next? No. Absolutely not. You have no idea what to do. I couldn’t even differentiate one stage from the next."

Acclaimed actor Anthony Hopkins , who has appeared in several Thor movies, also wasn't impressed. "They put me in armor; they shoved a beard on me. Sit on the throne; shout a bit," he told The New Yorker last year. "If you’re sitting in front of a green screen, it’s pointless acting it."

Blade star Stephen Dorff , who played a Marvel character on screen before the official debut of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, also didn't hold back. "I don’t want to be in those movies. I really don’t," he said honestly to The Independent in 2021. "I’ll find that kid director that’s gonna be the next Kubrick and I’ll act for him instead."

Harington is set to appear in this season of Industry on HBO.
