Jeff Goldblum Opens Up About Becoming a Father at 62

Acclaimed actor Jeff Goldblum has been appearing in movies for half a century, and for most of that time, the Jurassic Park star has been married without children. In 2015, Goldblum became a father for the first time at 62. Now, with nearly a decade of being a late-in-life father under his belt, Goldblum is reflecting on his journey as a dad.

Goldblum opened up about his life as a dad in an Aug. 18 interview with The Independent . He married Canadian Olympic gymnast Emilie Livingston in 2014; they welcomed their first child, Charlie, the following year, with second son River arriving in 2017. Now 9 and 7, respectively, Charlie and River are the light of their dad's life.

"It’s amazing," Goldblum said of fatherhood. "Every emotion comes up, and you are forced to examine everything that you model and could be better at. It’s a great task and opportunity."

Childhood is a special thing for Goldblum, as he knew what he wanted to do when he grew up from the time he was young. As a result, he continues to dedicate himself fully to his work five decades into his professional career.

"You know, I wanted to be an actor in the worst way from 10 years old," he said. "And I still pinch myself, going, ‘Gee, this is a miraculous opportunity. It’d be a shame if you don’t make the most of it.' So I just try to show up to work and be grateful and appreciative of it all."

Still, Charlie and River shouldn't get used to having everything provided by their famous dad, as he declared back in April that he expects them to "row [their] own boat" when they get older.

Goldblum's latest project, the mythological comedy series Kaos , streams on Netflix Aug. 29.
