Game-Changing New iPhone 16 Feature Interacts With the Real World

The iPhone 16 debuted at an Apple event on Monday, Sept. 9, which comes with a whole slew of new features such as upgraded camera controls, a new ultra-wide sensor that can capture up to 2.6 times more light, and an action button that allows you to set shortcuts to open specific apps or tasks.

But the biggest revelation is undoubtedly Apple Intelligence, which includes a revolutionary new visual intelligence feature that can actually identify objects and interact with the world around you.

As part of the new camera features, there is now a new camera control button along the side of the device that allows the user to not only take photos but adjust the zoom and switch between modes and settings. However, that button also has the ability to actually scan the real world to identify objects, similarly to how Google Lens works. To employ the feature, users simply need to click and hold the button, then point the phone’s camera at whatever they're inquisitive about.

For example, per CNET , you can scan a photo of a real dog and your iPhone will identify the breed for you. The visual intelligence also integrates with other iPhone features, such as allowing you to scan a poster promoting an event, and adding the details on the poster—such as the time, date and location—right to your calendar. Likewise, you can scan an object and then shop for it on Google.

"The camera control provides instant, easy access to the camera with just a click. It allows you to adjust various camera features simply by sliding your finger," the company said during the event. "Its convenient design ensures it's always within reach."

The iPhone 16, 16 Plus, 16 Pro, and 16 Pro Max will be available for preorder this Friday, Sept. 13 and released on Sept. 20. The new models also come in a range of new colors, including black, white, ultramarine, teal, and pink.
