If you were going to shoot a watch into space and expect it to come back intact, a G-Shock would probably be a safe bet for one that might survive. The Japanese watch brand is certainly aware that fans feel like their watches can withstand just about anything, and it has now unveiled its fifth NASA-inspired timepiece, the GW6900NASA24-1 .

The latest addition to G-Shock’s NASA collection opts to keep things classic, but also changes things up from previous releases, most of which were white (except for an orange one from 2022). The GW6900NASA24-1 is black and draws much of its inspiration from parent company Casio's iconic calculators, blending “nostalgia with modern design,” says the brand. The watch’s base is the GW6900, giving it a softer, more rounded look.

The case size is 53.2×50×17.7 mm and is made from resin, as is the band. As with most G-Shocks, there are a whole bunch of fun additional features, including world time, a 1/100-sec stopwatch, four alarms, and more. It’s water-resistant up to 200 meters (which shouldn’t be too much of a problem, unless touchdown goes haywire). It’s solar powered and can operate for an estimated nine months on its rechargeable battery with normal use without exposure to light after charge.

For real space and physics fans, it's the watch’s backlight that’s most exciting. When you press the button of the EL backlight display, the word “gravity” will appear along with Newton’s formula for the force of gravity: F=(m₁m₂)/R². The case back, meanwhile, is engraved with the formula for impact, E=1/2mv 2 , a nod to G-Shock's reputation for shock resistance.

The GW6900NASA24-1 watch is also one of the more reasonable offerings that G-Shock has rolled out in recent months, coming in at just $170.
