Veteran NFL broadcaster Troy Aikman made rare personal remarks in a new interview with The Athletic , describing the “failure” of his second marriage as “rock bottom.”

The former Dallas Cowboys QB married Catherine “Capa” Mooty in 2017 during a small ceremony in California after the pair had dated for about a year. Though Aikman hadn't made any public remarks about his separation from Mooty until now, sources told the outlet that the couple divorced around 2020.

Aikman admitted that he didn’t realize his and Mooty’s union was in trouble until it had already dissolved. “A failure,” Aikman curtly referred to it. “That was my rock bottom."

Aikman is still keeping his cards close to his chest, with the outlet noting that “years later, he’s still embarrassed talking about it.”

The furthest the broadcaster went towards explaining his split from either spouse was a single remark during the extended interview. “For me,” Aikman allowed, “contentment was always a four-letter word. I never wanted to be content. I didn’t wanna be around anyone who was content. That’s just not a place I could land.”

That hasn’t stopped Aikman from moving on with other people, though. In June 2023, he announced his relationship with Dallas -native Haley Clark, who works for a men’s clothing company. The following month, People reported that Aikman and Mooty had divorced .

Aikman had previously been married to Rhonda Worthey, the Cowboys’ former publicist, with whom he shares two daughters. They announced their split in 2011 after a decade of marriage.
