U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials are no stranger to travelers trying to bring strange packages into the country. Their latest seizure in Texas, however, isn't your typical undeclared products in your suitcase.

According to a statement from the agency, CBP officers at the Presidio port of entry in Texas seized 748 pounds of Mexican bologna on Sept. 24. The stash, they said, was aboard a vehicle coming into the country from Mexico that was driven by a 43-year-old female U.S. citizen.

At first, the driver declared just a cooked meal during the inspection. Upon further review, however, the agents found the suitcases with the meat. Mexican bologna is prohibited to bring into the U.S. as it's made from pork and could introduce foreign animal diseases to the U.S. pork industry.

During the inspection, CBP officers also discovered more than 280 boxes of undeclared prescription medications in the vehicle. This included serious meds like Tramadol, Fentermina, Alprazolam, Clonazapam, Diazapam, and Farmapram. The driver was sent off with a $1,000 civil penalty as CBP destroyed the bologna and seized the medication.

"We stress that it is important that travelers educate themselves on what products are allowed to be legally entered from abroad. And even if they believe an item is allowed travelers should still declare all items they are transporting to the U.S. to avoid fines and penalties," CBP Presidio Port Director Benito Reyes, Jr. said in a statement following the bust.

Don't let your next international trip be ruined upon your return.
