Adventurer Who Fell to Death at Zion National Park Identified as Software CEO

The man who fell to his death last week at Utah’s Zion National Park has been identified. In an Oct. 7 statement , the software manufacturer Opiniion confirmed 40-year-old Justin Bingham, the company’s CEO and a father of four, was the person who died last Saturday in a canyoneering accident.

"Justin was involved in a tragic accident while enjoying one of his greatest passions—exploring the outdoors,” the statement read. “Despite the best efforts of over 50 team members of various rescue teams, he passed away on the night of Saturday, Oct. 5, 2024.”

Bingham was canyoneering with three others near Heaps Canyon around 6 p.m. when he suddenly slipped and fell between 150–200 feet, according to a press release from the National Parks Department (NPS). Despite the park’s swift response, Bingham died before he could be airlifted to a hospital.

"Justin was a visionary who believed in the power of genuine connections, both with our clients and within our team," Opiniion’s statement reads. "His commitment to building meaningful relationships made a lasting impact on everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. Justin’s spirit of adventure and dedication to living life fully will be deeply missed."

A statement posted early Friday morning on behalf of Bingham’s wife, Lindsay, lays bare the family’s devastation. "It is with broken hearts we share the untimely passing of our hero, Justin Bingham. The world lost a legend. His family lost their rock. Lindsay lost the love of her life. Their children have lost their best friend," the statement read. "But we have not lost hope. Justin loved life more than anything. His passion for living was rivaled only by his devotion to his family. His wife and his four precious kids were his reason for living, the reason he got out of bed every morning and his sole purpose on earth.

"He never would have wanted to leave them this way, but we pray that he can see the armies of earthly angels surrounding his family at this most desolate time," his wife’s statement continued. "There are no words to describe the pain or confusion we are all feeling right now, but if you knew Justin you know he would infuse this moment with optimism and positivity."

Zion National Park and the Washington County Sheriff’s Office are investigating Bingham’s exact cause of death.
