Basketball superstar Angel Reese revealed during an Instagram Live on Tuesday that her $74,000 annual salary from the WNBA doesn’t cover her rent, or any of her bills for that matter. “I’m living beyond my means,” she joked.

"The WNBA don't pay my bills at all," Reese claimed during the live stream. "I don't even think that pays one of my bills . Literally." She then addressed a person off-camera, telling them she had to “do the math real quick” on multiplying her monthly rent into a yearly sum.

"I don't even know my salary," Reese continued. "Seventy-four [thousand]?" As she calculates the math, the person off-camera seemingly showed the athlete her bank records, prompting her to declare, “Yo! I’m living beyond my means. Sike!”

"I don't even know my salary for the WNBA ,” Reese repeated. “That WNBA check don't pay a thing."

“That’s sad,” Reese’s friend said, “because that really shows you, like, obviously you’re fortunate to have other streams of income, but other people have to actually live off that. That’s really sad.”

“I wouldn't be able to eat,” Reese said . “I wouldn’t be able to live.”

“Especially in a city like Chicago or New York,” her friend continued. “And you make the same amount of money if you live in Chicago or New York than if you live in Minnesota.”

“Crazy. Crazy,” the LSU icon mused. “We’re gonna make more money though,” she assured fans.

Reese signed a four-year, $324,383 contract with the Chicago Sky through 2027 which sees her make slightly more each season. She earned $73,439 for her first year and will receive $74,909 for the 2025 season. She’s set to earn $82,399 in 2026 and $93,636 in 2027.

The WNBA has notoriously low salaries, as the league has struggled for years to become profitable. A recent explosion in viewership and attendance accompanying Reese and fellow hooper Caitlin Clark's entry into the league, however, has promised to help push its finances into the black.

But the athlete indeed has many other income sources besides her WNBA salary. Per Sportskeeda , as of September Reese was earning $1.8 million through 20 separate NIL endorsement deals, making her one of the industry’s highest earners. Reese also has the distinction of being signed to Reebok’s first-ever NIL deal . The brand recently launched her Reebok by Angel apparel and footwear line .
