Since G-Shock first introduced its 2100 line in 2019, it has grown to represent some of the most design-focused pieces under the Japanese-brand’s name. The MRG B2100-1A, the latest addition to the Casio collection, also bears the Mr-G name, giving it an extra sense of luxury and aesthetic-mindedness. And while sharing names with predecessors certainly helps get people’s attention, this latest release actually deserves the fanfare surrounding it.

Featuring a full-metal exterior that uses state-of-the-art materials, hand-finishes, and thoughtful polishes as well as a number of other unique features, it's a watch absorbed by details. But it's the composition that truly stands out. The Casio G-Shock MRGB2100B-1A titanium watch utilizes the ancient Japanese art of kigumi—the art of interlocking wooden beams without nails—to create a piece that mixes tradition with technology.

Traditional kigumi construction techniques have been employed since the Heian period (794 to 1185). The creations made from this woodworking approach require a stunning degree of precision, resulting in forms with a blend of structural strength and beauty—all of which can be found throughout the MRGB2100B-1A.

Created from 27 separate components, the watch’s bezel is made with Cobarion, an alloy four times harder than pure titanium and a gleam comparable to platinum, with each piece being polished prior to assembly.

The dial’s design also incorporates decorative aspects inspired by the traditional Japanese wooden joinery techniques. The surface features a corrugated form with a series of openings used to create a geometric, latticework pattern that also lets enough light through for solar power generation.

The band, meanwhile, is made from DAT55G, a proprietary material three times harder than the typical titanium alloy used in watchmaking. A special Ti64 titanium alloy is used for the case, case back, and buttons.

In addition, the Casio G-Shock MRGB2100B-1A offers all of the usual features we’ve come to expect from the brand—including shock-resistant design, 200 meter water resistance, magnetic resistance, Bluetooth connectivity, and radio-signal timekeeping. The watch is priced at $4,800 .
