The Mequon-Thiensville School Board has appointed a new board member to fill a vacancy left by former board member Paul Buzzell's resignation.

At a special meeting June 24, the Mequon-Thiensville School Board appointed Michael Stadler to the vacancy. Stadler was sworn in June 25. His appointment begins immediately and will end in April 2025. If interested, Stadler could run again next spring for a three-year term, according to a Mequon-Thiensville School District news release.

Stadler did not immediately respond to a phone or email message from a reporter asking about his interest in the role and his reaction to being appointed to the board.

Buzzell resigned earlierthis month, but did not provide a reason for his resignation.

Stadler is a Mequon resident and parent of two students in the Mequon-Thiensville School District. He has served as Froedtert Hospital's chief medical officer and the Medical College of Wisconsin's associate dean for clinical affairs for the last 4.5 years years, the district's news release said.

Nine community members applied for the position; the board interviewed five candidates after four chose not to continue with the interview process, according to district chief of communications Molly Loucks.

Mequon-Thiensville School Board president Jason Levash did not immediately respond to a phone or email message seeking comment.
