Rabid bat found near school playground in Mercer County, NJ
PRINCETON — A rabies test turned out positive for a bat found on Tuesday on the ground in Mercer County. The bat was found that morning near Community Park School’s playground described as “alive and moving,” according to the municipality’s release. Once obtained by Princeton Animal Control Officer Jim Ferry, the bat was sent away for testing, which came back with a positive result.

A young father died protecting his children in a Friday night carjacking in Trenton, the city’s mayor confirmed Saturday afternoon. On Friday at about 10:20 p.m., city officials received reports of an accident with an overturned vehicle near Garfield and Farragut Avenues, the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office said in a press release. On the scene, first responders found an overturned white Durango with one male victim inside and two kids, police said.

A Mercer County man was killed when he was struck by a car while crossing a roadway in Hamilton on Saturday night, police said. Jose Guadrou-Martinez, of Hamilton, was walking across South Broad Street in the 2700 block around 9:30 p.m. when he was hit by a car driven by a Willingboro resident traveling eastbound, according to a press release issued by the local police department.
