Restaurant news: In the studio with ‘homemade live!’
I recently had the opportunity to be part of the studio audience for a new PBS/American Public Television cooking show called “homemade live!” that is filmed at a studio on Columbia Street in Downtown Seattle. I first learned about “homemade live!” when it began offering online cooking classes during the pandemic through its website and on YouTube. I was signed up to attend several filming sessions but due to a scheduling conflict I was only able to attend one of them that features the host, Chef Joel Gamoran, and his “celebrity guest,” Peloton instructor Ally Love. When I arrived at the studio there was a long line of people patiently waiting outside and thankfully it was not raining. We had to wait until the producers were ready to let us in and then we were strategically seated around the room.

How to Curate Cool Outdoor Spaces
The minute a sliver of sunshine breaks through the clouds, people in the Pacific Northwest are summoned outside — sporting shorts and tanks, cool bevvies in hand. No one cares if it’s only 60-some degrees. The seasoned patio professionals and deck darlings probably have their comfy loungers, tables,...
Pikes/Pines | The native berries of Capitol Hill summer
Every year, it’s harder and harder for me to feel excited about the Fourth of July. The waste, noise, and pollution is the most ridiculous way to celebrate a very dubious heritage (though I’ll admit having fun with friends and family outside is an exceptionally good way to spend a day). However, not only does the Fourth mark the end of Juneuary in my personal calendar, it also marks the beginning of berry season. The Pacific Northwest cup overfloweth with native berries to enjoy and that’s something to celebrate.
