Mifflin County Commissioner Releases Statement Regarding 'Sanctuary County' Status
Mifflin County Commissioner Kevin Kdish recently released the following statement:. “It has recently come to the Commissioners’ attention that the Mifflin County Correctional Facility, along with several other rural county correctional facilities, has been erroneously designated by ICE (U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement) as a facility that only partially cooperates with their agency.

East Juniata’s girls led by one at the half before Lilly Goodling added a second half insurance goal as the Tigers beat the Juniata soccer team yesterday, 3-1. Juniata’s boys, meanwhile, returned the favor, beating EJ by the same 3-1 score, thanks in part to a pair of second half goals from Anthony Maradiaga.

Juniata’s boys took all five of the top spots in winning yesterday’s cross country meet with Susquenita, Newport, St. Joseph’s and Upper Dauphin. Joey Bomberger won, followed by Wyatt Stroup, Levi Zeiders, Wesley Ehrisman and Ricky Guante, respectively. Sylvia Brubaker won the girl’s race for the Indians with teammate Carolyn Heidenreich, a freshman, coming in sixth.

Last year’s 800-meter indoor state champion Carter Smith is off to a monster start in his Mifflin County cross country career. Smith has now won all three races he has been in, including Saturday’s Kutztown Invitational. Ava Wagner improved her personal-best time in her third straight race for the Husky girls.
Former Mifflin and Juniata County Stars Have Solid NCAA Weekends
Several former area stars from Mifflin and Juniata counties put up some solid numbers for their college teams over the weekend. Senior captain Leah Sankey (East Juniata grad) scored her second goal of the season in helping King's college to a 1-1 draw with Drew.

Big Valley Invitational champ Carter Smith continued the strong start to his cross country career, earning the win yesterday against Cumberland Valley. The Huskies’ won the meet, 21-40. CV beat the Mifflin County girls, 15-49. Amilia Coffey was the first Husky to finish, placing seventh. Ava Wagner (pictured) ran a personal-best for the second race in a row.
Former Mifflin and Juniata County Stars Off to a Hot Start for Their College Teams
St. Vincent's Dakota Hershberger accounted for eight kills over the course of the Saint Vincent Bearcat Challenge, in which the Bearcats went 2-2. Kylee Cubbison finished seventh overall for Bowling Green as the Falcon's cross country team placed third in a field of 10 teams at Akron's Tommy Evans Invitational.
Juniata County's Ashley Stremme Headed to Vegas To Compete In Mrs. America Pageant
It’s close to showtime! Mifflintown’s Ashley Stremme will represent the Keystone State at the Mrs. America Pageant in Las Vegas later this month!. The Juniata County native will compete for the title of Mrs. America after being crowned Mrs. Pennsylvania America back in April.

As if back-to-back state championship game appearances weren't awesome enough, the Juniata Indians softball team recently learned three of their stars were names all-state!. When the Pennsylvania High School Softball Coaches Association Committee erecently released its all-state team, Juniata’s Liz Gaisior (pictured) was named 3A Pitcher of the Year!
United Way of Mifflin-Juniata Seeks Participants for 27th Annual 'Day of Caring'
The Day of Caring is a yearly volunteer event offered by United Way of Mifflin-Juniata, kicking off the annual campaign every September. The 27th Annual Day of Caring will take place on Wednesday, September 18, 2024. Registration is now open for both volunteer teams and agency projects.
