    Big Valley Invitational champ Carter Smith continued the strong start to his cross country career, earning the win yesterday against Cumberland Valley. The Huskies’ won the meet, 21-40. CV beat the Mifflin County girls, 15-49. Amilia Coffey was the first Husky to finish, placing seventh. Ava Wagner (pictured) ran a personal-best for the second race in a row.

    Juniata took the first set but Millersburg rebounded to win the rest, taking yesterday’s volleyball match from the Indians, 3-1. Brooklyn Ehrenzeller scored 18 service points with Isabella Armstrong adding 21 assists for Juniata in the setback.

    The Boiling Springs soccer teams beat Mifflin County yesterday, the boys, 5-0, and the girls, 3-1. Mackenzie Peachey accounted for the lone Husky goal on the day.

    Mifflin County’s tennis team fell to Chambersburg, 5-0, but had a couple of nice performances nonetheless. Ava Kelly lost a tough three-set match at #2 singles while the doubles team of Marcella McKee and Ellie Hartzler also went three sets.

    East Juniata alum Leah Sankey scored the game's first goal for King's College but Immaculata came back to beat the Monarchs, 2-1.

    The Phillies trailed 6-1 after one, their run coming courtesy of a Kyle Schwarber home run. Schwarber hit two more home runs, including the go-ahead shot in the ninth, as the Fightins rallied for a 10-9 win in Toronto. Schwarber ended the night with five hits and six runs batted in.

    Paul Skenes improved to 9-2 in this, his rookie season, with yesterday’s 5-0 Pirates’ win over the Chicago Cubs. Skenes went five, allowing four hits and walking four. He struck out six.

    And Georgia received all but five number one votes in earning the top spot in the new AP college football poll. Ohio State got the remaining five and sits at number two. Texas, Alabama and Notre Dame round out the top five, respectively. Penn State sits tight at eight. The Lions have their home opener this weekend, welcoming in Bowling Green on Saturday for a noon kickoff.
