Juniata’s Sylvia Brubaker won yesterday’s cross country meet with Newport, St. Joe’s, Susquenita and Upper Dauphin. The Indian boys took the top two spots, with Wyatt Stroup winning and Joey Bomberger coming in second.

Mylee Landis and Thea Beward scored a pair of goals each as Juniata’s soccer team cruised past Halifax, 8-0. Halifax beat the JHS boys, 7-3, despite a two-goal effort from Indian Anthony Maradiaga.

Also yesterday, East Juniata’s boys nipped Shamokin, 2-1, while Line Mountain doubled up the EJ girls, 4-2.

Mifflin County placed second in a field of seven teams, losing only to Mechanicsburg by five strokes, yesterday afternoon. Colby Sweitzer shot a 78, good enough for a third place tie in the overall standings. Fellow Husky Jackson Flood tied for fifth, one stroke back.

Kyle Schwarber homered again, his fourth in two days, as the Phillies beat Toronto, 4-2. The Chicago Cubs, meanwhile, took the Pirates behind the woodshed for a 12-0 combined no-hitter.

And the NFL season kicks off tonight with two-time defending Super Bowl champ Kansas City hosting the Baltimore Ravens. The Eagles open up against Green Bay tomorrow night in Brazil. The Steelers are in Atlanta on Sunday at one.
