Meridian EDC approves matching donation to Bosque County Veterans Memorial News Staff Wed, 03/06/2024 - 05:46 Image Body

The Meridian Economic Development Corporation last month approved granting the Bosque County Veterans Memorial Committee $20,000 as a matching donation towards the funding of the Bosque County Veterans Memorial.

“We were able to make another payment to RMB and now have the balance down to $35,000,” Andrea Wallum, project coordinator, said. “So with the $20,000 matching donation, we could easily have the monuments paid for and begin the process of building the wall and laying the memorial bricks.”

“As always, thank you for your help and support,” she added.

To make a monetary donation, send a check to the Bosque County Veterans Memorial, P.O. Box 19 Meridian, Texas 76665.

Donations go toward a memorial for U.S. military veterans from inside and outside Bosque County which will be located at the intersection of Highway 6 and Highway 22 in Meridian.

The plans for the memorial include six large stones representing the branches of the U.S. military with personalized engraved paver bricks placed around the flagpole.

In May 2023, the committee paid the initial down payment ($10,000) for the six stones finished by RMB Monuments.

Anyone wishing to purchase a brick to honor a veteran may do so, regardless of their residency.

Four brick sizes are available to order and range in price from $100 to $550. Donor bricks, souvenir bricks, and donor certificates can be ordered for an additional price as well.

To date, around 100 bricks have been ordered and received by the committee.

The estimated cost to complete the memorial monument project is $150,000.

The committee is holding a fundraising benefit at Ramblin’ Dan's Bar & Grille in Meridian on Thursday, March 14.

The evening will include live music and games.
