    It’s March in Bosque County, so you know what that means?

    It’s Texas History Month!

    The Bosque Museum held its annual Celebrate Texas Independence Contest, and conducted its award ceremony for students in 4th and 7th grade on Wednesday, March 6.

    This year, the firstplace winners of the artwork and essay contests – along with all the winners’ names – will be on display at the Bosque Museum in Clifton.

    The winners in the art category include:

    • 1st – Charlotte Diab, Valley Mills (Mirabeau B. Lamar).

    • 2nd – Peyten Allen, Clifton (The Alamo).

    • 3rd – Carmen Flores, Valley Mills (William B. Travis).

    • Honorable Mention Art – Rylee Codling, Iredell (Iredell Trains).

    The winners in the essay category include:

    • 1st – Renee Ramsey, Iredell (Fort Worth Stockyards).

    • 2nd – Lilliana Duarte, Iredell (Washington on the Brazos).

    • 3rd – Reed Martin, Clifton (Stephen F. Austin).

    The first-place winners received $100 each for their winning submission. All the top three winners received a framed certificate.

    The Celebrate Texas Independence Essay Contest is an annual event open to 4th and 7th grade students in Bosque County.

    The contest’s sponsors are Rodney and Sandra Joy and First Security State Bank.

    The Bosque Museum is dedicated to protecting and preserving Bosque County’s historic and prehistoric resources for the use, education, enjoyment, and economic benefit of the public it serves.

    The museum is located at 301 South Avenue Q in Clifton, and its hours of operation are Thursday – Saturday, 10 a.m. – 5 p.m., and Sunday, 12 p.m. – 5 p.m.
